Phoenix Launches Real-Time Overdose Dashboard to Fight Rising Death Toll

Between 2019 and 2022, overdose deaths in Phoenix increased by 39%, with 1,023 lives lost in 2022 alone - more than half of all overdose deaths in Maricopa County. The city responded with action.

Real-Time Tracking

In 2024, Phoenix launched the Substance Use and Overdose Dashboard to track overdoses in real-time and improve prevention efforts. The data helps first responders and treatment providers identify hotspots and deploy resources where they are needed most.

A Deadly Combination

Methamphetamine use has become especially dangerous in Arizona, showing up in one-third of the state heat-related deaths in 2023. The extreme desert climate combined with stimulant use creates a deadly mix that other cities do not face.

Treatment Is Available

Despite the grim statistics, recovery is possible. Phoenix has dozens of treatment centers, detox facilities, and sober living homes ready to help. Cornerstone Healing Center and other local programs report success rates that give families hope.
